Porto and the houses.

Motionless. Real estate assets that generate profit or income, are sold or leased.

Standing still, on the sidewalk, watching the cars, people, and dogs go by.

Motionless throughout the days, months, and years. Motionless, under the morning, midday, and afternoon sun, rotating above them. Motionless under the moonlight, peeking from behind their roofs. Motionless in Spring, reflecting flowers in the windows. Motionless in Summer, preserving the coolness of the stone within them. Motionless in Autumn, the rain running down their facades. Motionless, impassively resisting the cold winds of Winter.

Standing still, to protect those who live and move within them, standing still so as not to wake the baby sleeping within them. Standing still so that the old woman climbing the stairs does not trip.

Motionless, amidst changing fashions that decorate, embellish, and mask them.

Standing still, even before the machines that invade, gut, and demolish them, until they are nothing but facades – motionless, because houses also die standing.
